Why Recycle?
Recycling preserves natural resources, extends the life of our landfills and helps the City meet the sustainability goal of 25% reduction of waste by 2017. Golden needs your continued support to help meet this goal. By recycling, residents will keep our collection rates down, save energy and conserve resources for future generations.
Recycling Guidelines
Please do not place plastic bags of any kind, food waste or green waste in your recycle tote. Recycle tote placement guidelines for day of service is the same as trash guidelines. All of the items below may be placed inside the recycle tote provided to you, co-mingled.
Acceptable Recycling Items
- Food Boxes/Boxboard; Empty cereal and cracker boxes
- Brown Paper Bags
- Phone Books, Catalogs and Magazines
- Newspapers
- Paper Cardboard, Dairy and Juice Containers
- Office and School Paper

- Glass Bottles or Jars
- Junk Mail; Including envelopes
- Cardboard; Collapse/cut boxes; Boxes must fit in container
- Plastic Bottles and Containers #1-#7
- Aluminum Foil and Cans
- Tin and Steel Cans

- Carpet, cloth or textiles
- Construction debris
- Food, liquids or yard waste
- Medical/Bio hazardous waste
- Plastic bags and clear plastic wrap
- Food-soiled cardboard, paper cups/plates

- Used paper towels and tissues
- Video and cassette tapes
- Waxed coated containers or paper
